June 18– For youth participating in the Southern Exposures 2022 Youth Nature Photo Contest, the next photo workshop is Introduction to Nature Photography at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset Dr., McAllen. Instructor is award-winning nature photographer Ruth Hoyt. A brief slide show on photography will be followed by a walk through the Quinta Mazatlán trails to take photos. Sessions are 8 to 10 a.m. for youth ages 8 to 12 and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for ages 13 to 18. Registration is $5; go to quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com to register. Bring a camera or smartphone. June 20-22 – Youth can learn basketball skills and train with a champion – NBA G League Most Valuable Player, Trevelin Queen. Registration is now open for the 2022 RGV Vipers Champ Camp. Geared for ages 6 to 13, camp will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, and cost is $150 per child.  The first 50 kids to sign up receive a free Vipers basketball.  Registration closes June 15. June 20-24 & July 11-15 – The Museum of South Texas History presents two sessions of Summer Camp at the Museum featuring hands-on activities related to museum career skills, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Camps are for children ages seven to 11; parents may stay or drop off and pick up their child at the conclusion. Pre-registration is required; register online at mosthistory.org/events or in person at the museum. The fee is $120 per camper and $100 for children of MOSTHistory members. June 20-24, July 18-22– The UTRGV STEM Coding Camps for Grades 6-12. Session 2 for Middle School is June 20-24 from 1 to 4 p.m.; Session 3 (Middle School Morning Session and High School Afternoon Session) is July 18-22 – 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (morning) 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (afternoon). It will be in the Interdisciplinary Engineering and Academic Building (EIEAB) Room 2.202 in Edinburg. June 20 – August 5– I-DREAM 4D Summer Camps for Grades 6-12 continue with Seaperch for High School on June 20-24 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Renewable Energy for Middle School, June 20-24, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Robotics for High School, July 11-22 – 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Robotics for High School, July 25-29 – 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and Robotics for High School: July 25-Aug. 5 – 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All camps will be held in the UTRGV Engineering Building in Edinburg. July 30– After several weeks of Youth Nature Photo Workshops it is time for youth to get Contest Ready with the final workshop at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset Dr., McAllen.  They will make their final selections from the images they have photographed over the past weeks in preparation for the Southern Exposures 2022 Youth Nature Photo Contest, all under the guidance of award-winning nature photographer Ruth Hoyt. August 27 – The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) presents its 43rd Collage Annual Gala to be held at the museum from 6 to 11 p.m. The black-tie gala fundraiser features silent and live auctions, an open bar and live entertainment. Sponsorships and donations of live and silent auction items are being sought by the Collage committee. Individual tickets will be available in early July. Wednesday

  • Join in the Outdoor Yoga from 6 to 7 p.m. through June 28 at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset Ave., McAllen. For all age and skill levels, take mats and blocks if you have them for a session under the oak tree with certified yoga teacher Shelby Hirschberg. Friday

  • Through July 29, it is Friday Photo Fun on the Trails at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset Dr., McAllen, 9 to 11 a.m., ages 8 and up, included with park admission. Bring a camera or smartphone. Call 956-681-3370 for information.
  • Take a relaxing Morning Bird Walk through Aug. 26 at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset Ave., McAllen. Geared for all ages, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., join John Brush, urban ecologist to explore the varieties in the native habitat. Park admission is $5 at quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com.

Saturday

  • Kids can join in the Nature Nuggets from 10 to 11 a.m. for ages 2 to 6 or Discovery Daysfor age 7 and up from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset Ave., McAllen. For Nature Nuggets, kids and parents will enjoy a nature-inspired book, along with a walk, talk and craft. Discovery Days activities include live creature visits, art and craft activities, special short nature presentations, a microscope station, ecosystem models, and more.
