January 19– Bentsen RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr., presents a Campfire Music Gathering at 5 p.m. Reservations are required. January 19 – The City of Edinburg’s Juneteenth Committee, in conjunction with UTRGV Center for Student Involvement, will host the MLK Day of Service event with a “Clean Up” at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery, 1701 E. January 23– The Winter Texan P.E.O. Sisters will meet at 11:30 a.m. at John Knox Village, 1202 S. Border Ave., #660, in Weslaco.

January 23– The P.E.O. Magic Valley Retirement Group will meet at the home of Connie Garrels at 11:30 a.m. RSVP to Connie at 402-641-0125. She will give directions to her home and other information for the meeting.

January 23–The annual meeting of the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fireman’s Pump House, 201 N. 1st St., McAllen. Anyone interested in serving on the board is asked to submit a headshot and bio by Monday, Jan. 15, to be placed on the ballot. Members are also asked to RSVP for the annual meeting via email at chamber@rgvhcc.com or by calling 956-928-0060.

February 2-3 – The Texas General Land Office’s Adopt-A-Beach (AAB) program 2024 Winter Beach Cleanup at South Padre Island is Friday, Feb. 2, and the Coastal Bend is on Saturday, Feb. 3. There will be two cleanup locations on South Padre Island and four locations in the Coastal Bend. Sign up by visiting AdoptABeach.org. March 6– The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce “Women of Distinction” awards dinner and expo will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mission Event Center, 200 N. Shary Rd. Tickets are $50 per person and $600 for a table of eight. Member vendor tables are $150 and $250 for vendor non-members. To purchase a reserved table, vendor table and for sponsorship information, contact Cissy Saenz, event director, at the RGVHCC at 956-928-0060.
