March 30

  • The Museum of South Texas History, 200 N. Closner Blvd., presents ¡Cascarón! 2024, their annual Easter celebration, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event kicks off with an Easter Hat Parade. Then decorate “cascarones” for $2 a dozen or purchase pre-decorated eggs for $3. There will be book readings, Easter displays, face painting, a photo booth, and an Easter egg hunt. Admission is free from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., which includes a self-guided tour to the signature Rio Grande Legacy exhibition. ¡Cascarón! is included in regular museum admission after 12 p.m. Admission is $9; $6, with ID, for seniors and students ages 13 and up; $5 for children ages 4 to 12; and free for children ages 3 and younger.   • Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center at 600 Sunset Dr., McAllen, presents Monarch Mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located at 600 Sunset Dr. in McAllen. There will be a Native Plant Sale, garden tours on the grounds at 9:30 and 11 a.m., and native plant workshop, “Gardening for Wildlife,” led by John Brush, urban ecologist, at 10 a.m. Youths will have opportunities to earn Scout badges and to participate in STEM Saturday. Other activities include making Monarch Migration butterfly crafts, Native Plants & Pollinators seed bombs, butterfly painting, and butterfly wishes. The event is included in park admission: $3 for adults, $2 for kids, and age 2 and under admitted for free.
  • Rebecca Coberly, soprano, and Juan Pablo Andrade, pianist, perform at 7 p.m. at the TSC Performing Arts Center, 90 Taylor Ave. in Brownsville. Coberly is a recitalist, concert soloist, performed on the musical stage and is currently an associate professor at UTRGV. Andrade is a Costa Rican award-winning pianist, has been a soloist with various symphonies, served as a visiting professor at universities, and is currently a professor UTRGV.

April 5

  • ACM award-winning singer/songwriter Parker McCollum brings his Burn It Down Tour 2024, to the Rio Grande Valley audience at Bert Ogden Arena, 4900 S. I-69C, Edinburg. April 7

  • The McAllen Wind Ensemble final concert of the season begins at 3 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. Tickets range from $7 to $17 and can be purchased in-person at the McAllen Performing Arts Center Box Office, by calling 800-745-3000, or go to ticketmaster.com. Additional fees may apply. April 10

  • The Friends of Quinta Mazatlán are celebrating their 18th Annual Moon Over Mazatlán at the urban sanctuary, 600 Sunset Dr. in McAllen. The evening under the stars raises funds for the Center for Urban Ecology supporting education, ecotourism and the environment. It will be an evening of dancing, live music, food and drinks.   • Comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias will be performing at Bert Ogden Arena, 4900 S.   • The Palm Valley Animal Society’s Third Annual 5K Color Splash and Doggie Dash begins at 8 a.m. on at Edinburg Municipal Park, 714 S. Raul Longoria Rd. Tackle the 5K course for $30 or bring along your own furry companion for the popular one-mile Doggie Dash for $25. Proceeds benefit the work of PVAS. April 13

  • The City of Edinburg’s inaugural Coarsest ,along with hometown musician Bobby Pulido, is a celebration of Conjunto and Norteño music, spotlighting the heritage of the Rio Grande Valley. From 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., it takes place at the Promenade Park Amphitheater, 201 W. McIntyre St. in Edinburg. Along with Pulido, performances feature school ensembles alongside a special night concert featuring artists such as Reflejo Activado from Brownsville, La Joya native and nephew of Ramon Ayala — Elvis Javier y Su Grupo Norteno, and Ram Herrera from San Antonio.   • The International Museum of Art & Science 16th Annual Night at the Brew-seum runs 7 to 11 p.m. This is an age 21 and over only event will be held at the museum at 1900 W. Nolana Ave., McAllen. Beyond the variety of brews, the evening features music, games, food trucks, food from local establishments, local business spotlights and more. Limited tables and tickets are available. March 1 to April 12 will be the last call for VIP and general admission tickets. Cost is $125 VIP for non-reserved standing and $1,000 VIP for a table for six and $850 for IMAS members. General admission is $85 and is $75 for IMAS members. On March 1, there will be a ticket price increase: IMAS Members, $95, and the general public, $115. Brew-seum will take place rain or shine, there are no refunds or returns.

  • The UTRGV Department of Theater ends the season with a rock and roll comedyAirness, a play about competitive air guitar and discovering the air-ness within. Follow Nina as she enters her first air guitar competition and finds out if she has what it takes to become the next champion. Appropriate for high school age and above. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday when ASL interpretation will be available.   • The STC Dance Collective’s Transcendence 2024 showcases the combined talents of students, community members, and dance professionals from the Rio Grande Valley. It is a series of visionary works that explore the human experience through raw physicality and storytelling. It will be held at STC’s Cooper Center for Performing Arts at the Pecan Campus, 3200 W.   • The World Ballet Series performance of Swan Lake comes to McAllen Performing Arts Center in an original new production. It will be presented at 7 p.m. Tchaikovsky’s music for the ballet troupe will be performed live by The Valley Symphony Orchestra with Vadim Nikitin as conductor. The production features Marius Petipa’s original choreography, retouched by Nadezhda Kalinina. Ticket prices start at $39 and are available at ticketmaster.com.

April 26

  • Chicago is that kind of town and Broadway’s road tour for the award-winning musical is coming to the McAllen Performing Arts Center, 800 Convention Center Blvd. The performance begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com, mcallentheater.com or the MPAC box office. May 3-5

  • The Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the South Texas Amateur Boxing Association, will host the Junior Olympic Amateur Boxing event to showcase over 400 youth amateur boxers from ages 8 to 16 demonstrating their skills. The public is invited to watch the competitions. Participants across South Texas will be organized by age, weight class, and gender, competing for championship medals, championship jackets, and trophies. It will be held in the boxing facility located inside the Parks and Recreation Department, 315 E. Mark S. Peña Drive. Sign-up is free for those who want to participate.
