  • “Burdened by Conviction – the Pressures Within,” the Dulce Perez MFA Exhibition opens at the UTRGV Visual Arts Building Gallery, 2412 S Closner Blvd., Edinburg. It will be on display until the closing reception on Oct. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free to view the exhibit and for the reception.
  • UTRGV Arts hosts the September opening of “Rewriting the Land, Rewriting the Soul,” an exhibition by guest artist Beatriz Guzman-Velasquez. It will be on display until the closing reception on Oct. 10 at the from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Charles and Dorothy Clark Art Gallery, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Guzman-Velazquez uses natural pigments harvested and foraged from areas of South Texas and Illinois. Admission is free for the exhibition and reception.   • The Valley Symphony Orchestra will hold a Symphony in the Park from 6 to 10 p.m. at the McAllen Convention Center Oval Park. Part of the ongoing Sunset Live Concert Series, free event will feature live music, food trucks, vendors, and activities for attendees of all ages. No tickets or reservations are required.

October 14 & 15

  • The UTRGV Symphonic Winds will perform at 7 p.m. each evening at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg.   • Pedro Martinez, trombonist, will perform at 3 p.m., in a UTRGV faculty recital at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Admission is free.

October 21

  • The UTRGV Master Chorale – Brownsville presents “All Together We are Love,” a performance with music about family relationships – parents, children, siblings, and spouses. It begins at 7 p.m. in the TSC Performing Arts Center, 90 Taylor Ave., Brownsville. It features the UTRGV Master Chorale, Chamber Singers, and Voice Faculty with pianist Juan Pablo Andrade. It is under the direction of Dr. Taylor who serves as a music assistant professor and director of choral studies on the UTRGV Brownsville campus. October 22

  • The UTRGV Trombone Choir will perform at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. The ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Pedro Martinez. Consisting of 8 to 22 trombonists with repertoire from Renaissance to contemporary works. Admission is free.

October 23-26 & 31

  • UTRGV presents the Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show for five performances. The musical dark comedy will be staged at the UTRGV Albert L. Jeffers Theatre, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. It is recommended for ages 18 and up due to strong language, dark humor, adult themes and suggestive sexual content. No one under age 16 will be permitted. The audience is encouraged to come in costumes, and costume guidelines can be found at utrgv.edu/arts. Performances are 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 23-25; 2 p.m. on Oct. 26; and 10 p.m. on Oct. 31.   • The Daniel A. Saldana Share the Love Memorial Scholarship Foundation will host its first fundraiser, the Share the Love Memorial 5K Run/Walk in Edinburg. The Foundation will provide free welding clothes to students through STC’s Threads Career Closet which allows students to obtain professional business attire from a wide selection of clothing.   • The Cinderella Ballet is coming to the McAllen Performing Arts Center on Nov. 5. Tickets are now on sale the 130-city tour of the production. World Ballet Company’s classically styled production of Cinderella, with original choreography by Estonia’s Marina Kesler, is designed for a modern viewer. It encompasses humor, charm, and dancing by a multinational cast of 40 top-flight professional dancers from 10 countries. Tickets range in price from $28 to $100.   • The South Texas College Theatre & Dance Department Fall Mainstage opens Nov. 6 to 9 with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). It’s a whirlwind of hilarity as three performers take on all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays—in 97 minutes. It takes place at the Cooper Center for Performing Arts, 3200 W. Pecan Blvd., McAllen.   • Keep McAllen Beautiful hosts the 14th Annual Arbor Day Celebration at Westside Park, 1000 S. Ware Rd. The Arbor Day Celebration is a walk, ride, and fitness event for amateur to professional levels with a 25-mile/100K Bike Ride, 5K and 10K races, a Kids Fun Run, and an ongoing Tree Workshop. All registered event finishers will receive a medal. Register early to meet the T-shirt deadline on Oct. 12.
