Visitors and tenants at CEED will soon have access to a new convenience: electric vehicle charging stations.

Chief Operating Officer Belen Guerrero-Aguirre presented a professional services agreement with AUTOChargit to install four charging stalls between Jitterz and El Pato at their meeting on December 10. The project aims to provide a reliable charging option for Tesla and other EV owners traveling west of McAllen.

AUTOChargit, known for its advanced EV charging systems, offers turn-key solutions for design, installation, and maintenance. Its modular approach allows sites to expand as demand increases, ensuring long-term reliability. The units will function much like parking garage systems, with customers scanning a QR code to confirm payment before charging.

The Mission Economic Development Corporation Board unanimously approved a $45,500 investment in the project. Purchases will be made before year-end, with installation beginning early next year. The system is expected to be operational within 90 days.

Board member Joe Vargas applauded the initiative, noting that most EV drivers currently rely on home charging or dealerships. “This will be the first station when traveling east,” Vargas said. “The investment will pay for itself.”

The board took action on selecting a bank institution for the next three years instead of five. Proposal submissions were received from Frost Bank, PNC Bank, Freedom Bank, Plains Capital Bank, Texas Regional Bank, Texas National Bank, and Lone Star National Bank. The board was unanimous in selecting Lone Star National bank except for Deborah Cordova who abstained from voting.

Along with other housekeeping items, there was a performance by the Juan Diego Academy choir, a presentation by C.P.A. Ricky Longoria of Burton, McCumber & Longoria, L.L.P. regarding the September 30, 2024, audit and an update on the I69 Alliance.
