  • The UTRGV Ballet Folklórico presents “Huateque 2026” at 7:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Admission ranges from $5 to $15. The Ballet Folklórico is a 32-member organization comprised of students pursing degrees in a variety of disciplines. The Ballet presents student and public concerts annually and travels to present programs for local, state, national, and international private and public affairs. The Ballet has jointly produced ballets, concerts, zarzuelas, and musicals with the Valley Symphony Orchestra, the UTRGV Theatre, and the UTRGV Music Department.   • Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Community Archery Program and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will offer “Explore Bowhunting” at the La Sal Del Rey National Wildlife Reserve in Edinburg. The workshop, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free with park entrance and open to anyone interested in learning more about bowhunting. Equipment is provided. The event includes a state-of-the-art archery trailer with interactive archery games and a range for adaptive archers, an introductory range with 3D targets focusing on anatomy and shot placement, animal processing demonstration, cooking conversations, gear examples and hunting simulation activities for youth, Q&A about public hunting and regulations, and more.   • The public is invited to “Exploring the Olmecs” at the International Museum of Art & Science, 900 W. Nolana Ave. in McAllen. Special talks will be given by museum curator Marcelo Ramirez Garcia-Rojas at 11:30 a.m., followed by a presentation at 1 p.m. by Dr. Servando Hinojosa from UTRGV. Families can participate in hands-on activities including jaguar mask-making, ceramics, and community art-making experiences. The event is included in regular admission.   • The opening reception and exhibition of “The Art of Reading” by artist Samuel Rodriguez Medina begins at 6 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. The “Art of Reading” is comprised of works by over 20 talented international artists, expressing their love of literature through art. Rodriguez is a professor of Art, Culture, and Film at Tec de Monterrey, and Art Contemporary Museum MARCO. He is the author of five books of short stories and art theory published in Mexico and Argentina.

January 23

  • The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley annual Farm Dinner will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Food Bank, 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr. There will be a five-course, farm-to-table meal and musicwith proceeds benefiting Gem Valley Farm, the Food Bank RGV’s educational community garden and farm.   • The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Corporate Super Bowl tournament and inviting businesses to participate. It begins at 6 p.m. at Incredibowl in Mission. Registration deadline is January 26. There should be five players per team with at least one female player.   • UTRGV Ballet Español presents “Spanish Nights” at 7:30 p.m. both evenings at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Spanish dance encompasses a range of styles such as bailes folkloricos representing different regions of Spain; flamenco, the art of the gypsies of Spain and its “palos” such as Alegrias, Tangos, Solea, Bulerias, Siguiriyas; and Escuela Bolera, a style of classical dance and music from the 18th and 19th centuries where classical ballet principles of turnout combine typical Spanish arm movements, with castanets, and flamenco footwork and folkloric steps, to create classical Spanish dance works like “La Boda de Luis Alonso.” Music by Chayito Champion, vocalist, and Steve Arispe, guitarist, will perform.
