Sharyland ISD Shares Results of Bond Election

Mission, Texas –  Voters in Sharyland ISD did not approve the districts proposed $250 million bond program in the May 2 election.

The proposal included Proposition A ($208.5 million) for school facilities, safety and security, and campus modernization; Proposition B ($6.5 million) for instructional technology; and Proposition C ($35 million) for a new district aquatic center.

The bond program was developed through a transparent, community-led planning process in which more than 450 stakeholders contributed input. A districtwide facility planning committee, campus representatives, district leadership, and the Board of Trustees worked together to align facility improvements with long-term district priorities and community needs.

“It has been powerful to witness families, students, and staff come together for a common cause. The banner of love and support for public school education has been raised over Sharyland ISD. Though we did not see the bond pass, we are stronger because we grew in our hope and belief for what the learning environment for our students could be,” said Dr. Elaine Howard, Superintendent.

District leaders will take time to review the election results, gather additional community feedback, and evaluate next steps.

“Our focus remains on providing a strong educational experience for every student in Sharyland ISD. We will continue to listen, learn, and work alongside our community as we consider the path forward.” Howard said. “I thank all who have given sacrificially of their time and service to this cause. Your dream for our children has not been buried. You have planted a dream for the future of our community and students, and I will continue to water and tend to that dream on your behalf.”

Sharyland ISD will continue its work in maintaining safe and supportive learning environments and will share updates with the community as next steps are determined.
