Texas National Bank is expanding its branch locations across the Rio Grande Valley. A financial staple for small business owners in the Mission area, this bank is accelerating at a rate like none other when putting its community first.
“Our entire ownership is here in the Rio Grande Valley,” said TNB Vice President Hector Sanchez, stating the bank understands the community’s needs. “We take a lot of pride in that — as being local business owners that understand what it takes to get things done.”
The bank, according to its mission statement, “strives to achieve a culture” while exceeding customer expectations through “knowledge, commitment, and trust recognizing the ethical, social and economic implications on the communities” they serve.
TNB has aided local business owners that require additional capital to grow their businesses and is also an investor in the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce since joining in 2017.
“Our bankers serve with the Chamber,” said Sanchez. “But we also support them anytime there’s a new business coming into town or any type of referrals they want.”
Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Brenda Rodriguez further expanded on the bank’s role as an investor.
“When members sign up as investors, they’re really interacting with other businesses that aren’t able to support,” said Rodriguez. “They are an anchor in the community. Investors offset the gap in the non-profit world.”
Aside from offering retail, consumer, auto, PPP loans, deposit products, and mortgages, the bank engages with the public to increase financial literacy.
“Historically, this area has lacked [in financial resources]. So we have a higher number of undereducated people when it comes to the bank, a higher number of people who have lower credit scores,” said Sanchez. “We think it’s our duty to go and help bridge those social needs in the community.”
The bank offers products for all ages and provides youth savings and checking accounts geared toward adolescents and teenagers.
“We’ve gone to schools. Most recently, we partnered up with Region One here in Edinburg and gave lessons to some of their 11th graders,” said Executive Vice President for Marketing Myrhanda Ortega. “We’ve also done small business workshops. We’re able to talk about the different things that a start-up would need to come in to get a loan.
Thursday, TNB held a ribbon cutting for their newest location in Brownsville and is creating a branch in southern McAllen off of Ridge Rd. and in Edinburg. Since opening its doors in Mercedes in 1920, the bank now has twelve locations Valley-wide.
“The Valley is our community,” said Ortega. “I think it’s important to continue our mission and be able to reach as many people of value as much as we can. It continues to grow.”
