OBIT-Jose Chapa
MISSION – Jose “Cecilio” Chapa passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
Mr. Chapa was born on March 18, 1932, to Cecilio and Bernarda (Valverde) Chapa in Camargo, Tamps. Mexico. He graduated from Rio Grande City High School in 1953 and joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War where he was based in Germany. He married his wife, Juanita Peña, on Nov. 26, 1956, and was owner of Sharyland Welding Service where he was a welder for over 45 years.
Survivors include his wife 57 years, Juanita; children, Adriana Chapa, Alma Moore, Joe Chapa, Annette Chapa and Luis Chapa; sister, Lydia C. Doyno; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Albino Chapa, Dolores Pena and Anita Garza.
The funeral mass was held on April 11 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mission followed by burial at Valley Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers were Rudy Canales, Oscar Jimenez and Joe Ramirez.
