OBIT-Angelica Garza

Angelica Garza, 97, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at her home in Peñitas.

She was born on Feb. 12, 1917, to Alonzo and Maria Antonia Martinez-Garza in Havana. She attended school in Peñitas before moving to Mercedes where she graduated from Mercedes High School in 1936 before moving back to Peñitas. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Peñitas.

In 1956, she went to work for Hayes-Sammons Hardware Store in Mission as a sales associate and later worked at Broadway Hardware in McAllen where she retired after 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Maria Antonia Garza, and siblings, Alonzo Garza Jr., Alicia G. Hinojosa and Adalberto Garza.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, from 3 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Ceballos Funeral Home in McAllen. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony. Interment will follow at the Peñitas Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alonzo R. Garza, Jaime Garza, David D. Garza, A.J. Garza, Gilbert Garza and D. A. Hinojosa.
