COVID-19 cases climb past 29K in Hidalgo county
Hidalgo County health officials reported a total of 189 new positive cases of COVID-19 Wednesday as well as 23 additional deaths.
According to a news release, the latest case totals bring the count of people in the county who have died from COVID-19 related complications to 1,334. The total number of people who have knowingly contracted the disease in Hidalgo County now stands at 29,082 with 2,112 of those cases marked as active.
“My heart goes out to the families and friends of the 23 Hidalgo County neighbors we lost today,” Hidalgo county Judge Richard F. Cortez said in the news release. “The fight against COVID-19 is far from over, and this is not the time to let our guard down. Each of us plays a vital role in continuing to stop the spread and keep each other healthy.”
263 people remain in Hidalgo County hospitals to be treated with COVID-19 related complications with 93 of those individuals being treated in intensive care units.
