 NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Notice is hereby given to all interested persons, that:

The City Council for the City of La Joya will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at La Joya City Hall located at 701 E. Expressway 83, La Joya, Texas, to consider the following:

City of La Joya Municipal Budget for Fiscal Year 2024-2025

Members of the public are encouraged to provide input through any means available including by mail at the address above and/or by attending the public hearing. A copy of the proposed budget is available for inspection on the city’s website at www.lajoyatx.gov or in the City Secretary’s Office and the Finance Department located at La Joya City Hall at 701 E. Expressway 83, La Joya, TX 78560 from Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

“This Budget will raise more revenue from Property Taxes than last year’s Budget by $138,545, which is a 12.78 percent increase from last year’s Budget. The property tax revenue raised from new property added to the tax roll this year is $54,561.”

General Summary

Estimated Revenues

Total estimated revenues from all sources for FY 2025 are $9.5 million, a decrease from $9.8 million budgeted in FY 2024, due primarily to capital facility expenditures in FY 2024. This revenue estimate is based on reduced property tax rate, actual sales taxes, and economic activity projections. 

Proposed Expenditures

Total proposed expenditures for all Departments for FY 2025 are $8.9 million, a decrease from $9.0 million budgeted in FY 2024. These proposed expenditures are based on current services and the addition of Parks improvement and other items. 

Proposed Capital Expenditures

The Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for Fiscal Years 2025-2029 identified $56.3 in proposed capital expenditures. All proposed capital expenditures from all sources are not funded in this proposed Budget, but rather will be prioritized by the Council during the budget process.

Net Surplus

The La Joya Municipal Budget for FY 2025 is balanced, with a surplus of approximately $223,000 in the General Fund.
