  • The UTRGV Dance senior project, “Kinetic Odyssey,” will be performed both nights at 7:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Kinetic Odyssey is a showcase presenting choreography and performances produced by graduating seniors. The performance features contemporary and rhythmic dance.   • The City of Edinburg’s Veterans Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. The parade will take place along Closner Blvd., known as the Boulevard of Heroes, beginning at Richard R. Flores Stadium and will travel north along Closner Blvd., concluding at Kuhn Street. After the parade, the celebration will continue with a special Veterans Day Concert at Promenade Park Amphitheater, starting at 5 p.m. The evening will feature performances by Las Cuerdas, Sammy Arriaga, the Tejano Legends Pioneers Tribute Band, and Los Palominos. Admission is $20 for those aged 15 and up. Veterans with a military ID and anyone donating a new, unwrapped toy for the Edinburg Blue Santa Toy Drive will receive free entry.   • The annual Muzicians Run 5K/10K returns to South Padre Island. Participants will be serenaded by live Mariachi bands placed along the course approximately every half mile. It kicks off at 5 p.m. at Beach Waterpark, serving as both the starting and finishing points. Whether walking, jogging, or sprinting to the finish line, the Muzicians Run offers an experience unlike any other. Participants can choose a 1Mile, 5K, or 10K route, ensuring that runners of all abilities can join the fun. A fiesta featuring tacos, beer, and margaritas will be waiting at the finish line.   • Register for the Keep McAllen Beautiful (KMB) 13th Annual Arbor Day Celebration at Westside Park, 1000 S. Ware Rd. It is a run, bike, and walk event that band is open to everyone, amateurs to professionals. The day begins with a 25 Mile/100K Bike Ride, 5K Run, 10K Run, a Kids’ Fun Run, and an ongoing tree workshop. There will be music, educational booths, and more. Free trees will be available to the public. Entrance to the park and Arbor Day activities is free for all non-participants.   • The UTRGV Wind Orchestra – A Night of Percussion performance begins at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Drive, Edinburg. Admission is $6. The line-up features UTRGV percussion faculty Dr. Mark Ramirez and Dr. Francis Favis with “Ivan Trevino’s Run to the Light,” and the Wind Orchestra will showcase a consortium premiere of Gala Flagello’s Love & Nature and world premiere of Mat Campbell’s Centerpiece.   • Broadway in the Rio Grande Valley presents the North American tour of Mean Girls, the record-breaking musical comedy adapted from the hit Paramount Pictures film.   • The South Texas College Theatre and Dance first production of the year, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” by Edward Albee, will run on Thursday to Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Thursday performance will include an American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation. Performances are at STC’s Cooper Center for the Performing Arts Main Stage Theater, 3200 W. Pecan Blvd., McAllen. This production contains mature subject matter and may not be suitable for people under the age of 15. Parental/guardian discretion is advised.   • Puerto Rican songwriter Kany García’s “Garcia Tour 2024” will be at the McAllen Performing Arts Center, 801 Convention Center Blvd., on Friday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. Ticket prices start at $63, plus fees, and are available at mcallentheater.com/events/kany-garcia.

  • The UTRGV Distinguished Artist Series brings Grupo Fantasma to the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Drive, Edinburg. It begins at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 to $40. Grupo Fantasma is a nine-piece Grammy award-winning Latin band consisting of Latin percussion, guitar, bass, trumpet, baritone saxophone and trombone. The band performs a fusion of both new and traditional music.   • The Pharr Salute to Veterans Parade and Fireworks Show celebration will honor veterans at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Pharr, 200 S. Cage Blvd. The festivities will kick off with the parade at 5:30 p.m., followed by Hub Market Days and live music at 7 p.m., and the evening will conclude with a fireworks show at 8 p.m. The public is invited to show their patriotism by wearing red, white, and blue that day.

Mariachi Aztlán has traveled throughout Mexico, Canada and the United States as musical ambassadors representing the beauty of the Hispanic music and culture.   • Tido Janssen joins UTRGV Symphony Orchestra performing Saint Saens Cello Concerto No. 1, Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. Directed by Norman Gamboa, director of Orchestral Activities, the performance begins at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg.

  • Cine El Rey and CineSol Film Festival present the 18th Annual 36 Hour Film Race. Registration check-in and kick-off meeting will be held Nov. 22, at Cine El Rey, 311 S. 17th St., McAllen, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the rules meeting begins following registration. Then, watches are synchronized abd contestants are off in a dash to complete their film. Films will be judged and screened in two weeks at the 31st Annual CineSol Film Festival. The final film delivery is at the same location on Nov. 24. The film race screenings and awards will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at the CineSol Festival, eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization, 1304 E. Adams St., Brownsville. The 36-hour team members enter free with pass I.D. and general admission is $10 per person.   • Closing the UTRGV Theatre season is a production geared for the entire family. Carmela Full of Wishes, adapted by Alvaro Saar Rios, from the book by Matt de la Peña. Following young Carmela as she embarks on a whimsical journey filled with magical realism and cultural reflection, this play provides an exploration of identity and the power of dreams.
