Celebrating a Decade of Excellence: The Loretto Bistro

Loretto’s Bistro 10th year, Loretto Plaza Ribbon Cutting

Last Friday, November 15th, 2024, marked a milestone for The Loretto Bistro, a beloved gem in Mission, Texas, celebrating 10 years of culinary excellence. Over the past decade, The Loretto Bistro has grown from a local eatery to a symbol of community connection. They are well known for their exceptional cuisine, welcoming ambiance, and strong ties to the people of the City of Mission.

Deep in the heart of Mission, located at 1233 E. Griffin Parkway, The Loretto Bistro opened its doors with a clear goal: to bring gourmet dining to the Rio Grande Valley while incorporating locally sourced ingredients. Founded by the Gonzalez family, the restaurant became a family-driven project when their son, Robby Gonzalez, took over in 2017.

In its early days, The Loretto Bistro’s menu focused on classic American dishes with a twist. Over the years, the offerings have evolved, showcasing diverse flavors inspired by international dishes while staying true to its local roots. Signature dishes like Bistro Burger, Braised Short Rib, and their Chilaquiles have kept guests returning for more.

Reflecting on the journey, Gonzalez credits the restaurant’s success to the lessons he and his family have learned, “My parents started this all while I was in business school. More than anything, it’s been a lot of learning about the guests, understanding our profits and losses, and knowing the market so you can take advantage of it.”

The Bistro celebrated its anniversary while also unveiling The Loretto Plaza, a new commercial space located next to the restaurant. Designed to attract business owners and entrepreneurs, the plaza features five office suites with soaring 12-foot ceilings, large entry doors, and abundant natural light. Its spacious parking area, with over sixty spots, is catered to the tenants and their guests, encouraging the more guests, the merrier.

“The goal for the plaza is to bring in new businesses into the City of Mission,” Gonzalez explained. “We’re looking for businesses to complement us next door at The Loretto Bistro.”

For 10 years, The Loretto has been more than a dining destination. It is a space where families gather, friends reconnect, and celebrations of all kinds take place. The restaurant’s commitment to sourcing from local producers reflects their investment in the regional economy, while also providing a venue for fundraisers, private events, and community events which embodies their community-first philosophy.

Tim Brown, owner of Rick Brown Family Funeral Home and Executive Vice President of Tourism for The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce, spoke to Progress Times about the bistro’s impact on the community. “What’s exciting about this event is that The Loretto Restaurant has been open for ten years. That means the Gonzalez family is doing a fantastic job. With them opening this new center here, it means that the City of Mission is open for business.”

Brown went on to praise the restaurant’s focus on people, “They’re not in the restaurant business, they’re in the people business. They take care of the people. I think that’s the main takeaway for any business: Love the people, and the rest will follow.”

The anniversary event featured a ribbon cutting of The Loretto Plaza which provided live music, a six-course wine and dinner, and heartfelt speeches from community leaders. Guests enjoyed handcrafted cocktails and toasted to The Loretto’s legacy. The unveiling of The Loretto Plaza added an exciting glimpse into the future of the Gonzalez family’s entrepreneurial vision.

Chairman of the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce, Lance Ames, told Progress Times about the broader significance of the restaurant and plaza, “Having an establishment like The Loretto is so important for businesses all around the community. Food is something that unites us. The Loretto brings together a beautiful environment, a personalized setting, and authentic care to guests.” On The Loretto Plaza, Ames added, “It’s an incredible opportunity for businesses that want to be close to The Loretto. Being near such a well-regarded establishment is a great chance for small businesses to thrive and grow in Mission.”

The Gonzalez family is not stopping with just The Loretto Plaza. Plans for a second plaza in McAllen are already in motion, set to break ground in 2025. Meanwhile, The Loretto Bistro is looking to enhance its offerings with new menu items, including vegan and health-conscious options, to cater to the evolving tastes of its loyal guests.

As Mission continues to grow, The Loretto Bistro and Plaza stand together as a testament to the power of vision, resilience, and community spirit. Here’s to the next decade of delicious memories and shared success.
