  • UTRGV Ballet Español presents “Spanish Nights” at 7:30 p.m. both evenings at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Spanish dance encompasses a range of styles such as bailes folkloricos representing different regions of Spain; flamenco, the art of the gypsies of Spain and its “palos” such as Alegrias, Tangos, Solea, Bulerias, Siguiriyas; and Escuela Bolera, a style of classical dance and music from the 18th and 19th centuries where classical ballet principles of turnout combine typical Spanish arm movements, with castanets, and flamenco footwork and folkloric steps, to create classical Spanish dance works like “La Boda de Luis Alonso.” Music by Chayito Champion, vocalist, and Steve Arispe, guitarist, will perform. January 30-February 1

  • The South Padre Island’s inaugural Pickleball on Padre tournament continues this weekend for pickleball players of all ages and skill levels. Highlights include the following: Singles, doubles, and mixed doubles divisions for players of varying skill levels; Indoor & Outdoor Courts: Daily matches and open play; and Community & Camaraderie: Meet fellow pickleball fans and enjoy island adventures between matches. February 4

  • The Gladys Porter Zoo will host its annual Winter Texan Discount Day where Winter Texans will receive a special discounted admission rate of $8 with proof of out-of-state residence such as a driver license or passport. They will also receive a coupon to redeem a hot cup of coffee from the Oasis concession stand. New this year, guests can experience the thrill of the Soaring Eagle Zipline for an additional fee and meet the zoo’s youngest residents, baby dama gazelles.   • The Valley Symphony Orchestra’s next performances will be held Friday, February 6, with Star Wars+Four Hands at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. The VSO then returns to the TSC Performing Arts Center at 90 Taylor Ave. in Brownsville on Saturday, Feb. 7, for a repeat of the performance.   • Lace up the sneakers for Edinburg’s 44th Annual David Chavana 10K Run/Walk to be held Feb. 7 at Richard Flores Stadium. It begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Fun Run at 10 a.m. The 11th Annual Miracle Mile on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at Richard Flores Stadium. The Miracle Mile is an inclusive walk/run for the special needs community and is free of charge.   • The International Museum of Art & Science celebrates the piñata tradition with Piñatabstract, a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Josué Rawmirez. It runs from Feb. 14 through July 26. An opening reception is planned for February 13 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. It will be followed by a special IMAS After Dark program from 7 to 9 p.m. The exhibit explores the art of piñatas through craft, performance, and new media.   • The South Texas Health System Heart 5K Run/Walk will be held on the STHS Heart campus in McAllen.
